Culture & Employee Engagement
Cisso Bean & Dutch recently completed a Culture & Engagement Journey process for a privately held company mostly in the Mid-Atlantic states. One component of the journey process involved developing and administering a survey instrument for the company as well as related communication touch points and timelines. Kudos to this company for recognizing the importance of employee feedback in building a strong culture. Retention matters. Employee Handbook Construction
For some, writing an employee handbook is a daunting task. For us, it is one of our most rewarding projects. Questions we've been asked over the years from employers are – How do I get started? Do I really need an employee handbook? What should be included? Is an employee handbook considered a legal document? Will my employees consider this too punitive? As with everything in business, the “first day” onboarding experience is made more efficient with clearly defined company processes. Guest Lecturer, Speaker, Lunch & Learn Workshops. Roland Hearns, Principal @ Cisso Bean & Dutch is a former Apparel Merchandising, Design & Production (AMDP) Board Member at Auburn University. He has been a guest lecturer and guest speaker there for over 15 years.

Upcoming event- Collat School of Business, University of Alabama Birmingham October 2025. Dr. Roland Hearns is slated to return to the Capstone MBA Class to present "The Importance of Human Resources in Implementing an Organization's Strategy.

Brock School of Business Samford University. Thank you to Dr. McCombs, Assistant Professor of Management and her MBA class for their hospitality on February 26, 2024. Class presentation covered strategic human resources and career development. Samford University is ranked #10 of all colleges and universities in the U.S. for the quality of career preparation provided to its students (The Wall Street Journal).

First Annual BIRMINGHAM HR FUSION - AWESOME EVENT! This community event, held on November 2, 2023, was open to HR students, practitioners, and educators. The event included a networking segment and a panel discussion of HR professionals (Jeff Buck, Chanell Daniel, Jennifer Jones, Roland Hearns and John Faure), each representing a functional area of human resources. Hats off to moderator, Sie Clay and to Dr. C. Allen Gorman of UAB COLLAT School of Business for an outstanding job!

Community Connections. Cisso Bean & Dutch had the opportunity to be a part of the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce's Career Readiness Program. The career readiness program is a city wide endeavor, sponsored by The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce." Communication Matters" designed for 11th grade students, covers soft skills, resume building & interview basics! There were over 15 classes participating. Special thanks to all of the teachers and the 11th grade students from Chelsea High School and Oak Mountain High School who attended our sessions!

Charitable Giving. Each year during the season of giving, CB&D supported various charities including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, American Red Cross, Jimmie Hale Mission (Provides food, shelter & services for the homeless), Food Banks, and Disabled American Veterans (In wartime, they said "Yes" to protect our freedom). CB&D has and will continue to donate to various Toy Drives in the community. Most recently Hoover Fire Station No. 7 donor station. Every toy makes a difference in the life of a child.
